While the combination of the watermelon juice and bourbon was pretty good, a great cocktail needs to really pop. A squeeze of fresh lime juice added a nice fresh citrus note, which really brought out the fruity sweetness of the watermelon. Of course any drink called the cooler needs something to add a little cool edge to it, and what better than a bit of mint?

The Watermelon Bourbon Cooler is a great combination of sweet watermelon, smooth bourbon and crisp citrus. The mint syrupadds just the right amount of cool sweetness while the fresh mint garnish perfumes the cocktail and makes the Watermelon Bourbon Cooler a fantastic sipper for those days when the weather is just perfect!

We found a recipe via 7x7that perfectly replicates the Farm's version, so whether you're hosting a social distancing backyard bash, or having a happy hour at the beach, you can blow your friends away with this super yummy, low-cal cocktail.

Watermelon juice - Take one cup of cut watermelon and place in blender. Blend on high until pureed. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain mixture into a glass or bowl. Discard remaining solids from strainer. Will yield enough juice for 4 cocktails.

Muddled watermelon in a cocktail can make the drink taste diluted, and changes the appearance, leaving it slightly muddy looking. Cooked watermelon syrup the kind you see most often online does add the flavor of watermelon, but it adds the flavor of cooked, not fresh watermelon, and I am not a fan.

I also split the sour element of a standard whiskey sour using half lime juice and half lemon juice. The additional acidity of the lime juice made the watermelon cocktail much more tart, but in a way that complemented the flavors of the fresh watermelon syrup.

But the most delicious addition to this cocktail is the peach bitters. So often, peaches and watermelon arrive in season at the same time, and my favorite smoothies combine the two of them. Adding in the bright flavors of the peach bitters tamed the sweetness of the syrup and the bourbon and cut back on the additional sourness from the lime juice.

To make it, youll need to make some watermelon syrup dont worry, its extremely easy and mostly hands-off. Then, gather your lime juice, lemon juice, peach bitters, and bourbon. Combine them in your shaker, fill with ice and shake for 10-12 seconds, or until the shaker is frosty cold.  

I prefer my whiskey sours up shaken, but not over ice. But if you prefer your whiskey sours over the rocks in an old fashioned glass, you do you. I find it dilutes the watermelon flavor as the ice melts and leaves the cocktail bland. But you might drink faster than I do
