So the last lingering clumps of snow have finally melted in our yard! YAY! Know what that really means in my book? It means Im thinking all things spring and summer, theres no turning back, bring on the best flavors of these beloved seasons.
Today Im sharing a quick and easy cocktail thats great for sipping on the deck, serving at brunch, or just enjoying over Spring Break. This Sparkling Watermelon Lime Spritzer combines two great flavors that just cry out for warm-weather sipping.
I personally think the juice itself is a bit too sweet for everyday consumption on its own, but add in lime. hats where it becomes a true taste of summer. Lime and watermelon are a great pairing, the lime cuts the sweetness of watermelon back just a touch and adds another level of flavor.
What ingredients do you need to make a sparkling watermelon lime spritzer?
When I went to LA last year and someone from our group ordered fresh watermelon juice and it came out ice cold it tasted completely different. Since last year, I had been waiting and waiting until summertime so I could make watermelon juice. This was back in October when I was in LA and I asked Jason in January whether or not he thought I could find watermelon in stores. Lol, um not quite. Another reason why I wish I lived on the west coast – fresh produce year-round!
This watermelon mint lime juice issorefreshing especially ice cold. I dont suggest serving this lukewarm as I really dont think the flavors shine through. Watermelon is meant to be had chilled because well; its watermelon! You associate that with a cool refreshing feeling. Watermelon is a summer fruit for a reason. It cools you down when its scorching outside!
Can i substitute lemons for limes?
I loathe the Starbucksrefreshers. I realize that's a harsh word considering I've never actually had one, but I can all but guarantee they're full of sugar and also refresh isn't a noun and shouldn't be made into one. Is my opinion.
I first had this years ago at the yoga studio where I worked; we called it watermelon tonic and it appeared all summer every summer. Watermelon and lime are a great combination, the ingredients are good and good for you, and fresh mint just screams summer to me.

Its so easy to make and it looks super impressive too. Have you ever had watermelon juice? It is heavenly and so refreshing! The lime juice perfectly offsets the sweetness of the watermelon juice and the vodka is light and refreshing to not compete with the lovely simple flavor of the watermelon. This is perfect for summer entertaining and would also work awesome for a girly shower or party.
Watermelon juice is made by pressing watermelon through a fine sieve and extracting the juice. A cocktail muddler is very helpful. You can also blend it in the blender and then strain out the pulp and seeds.

Combine sugar, water, and ginger in a small saucepan over high heat. Cook until sugar dissolves, stirring with a whisk. Retire nan chalè; cover and let stand 15 minutes. Strain; discard solids. Working in batches, place diced watermelon and fresh lime juice in a blender; pwosesis jiskaske lis. Strain watermelon mixture through a fine sieve into a pitcher; discard solids. Stir in sugar syrup and chilled club soda. Serve over ice; garnish, if desired.
